Thai Hairy Basil Essential Oil 

Hairy Basil Essential Oil is obtained by steam distillation of Ocimum americanum, leaves. The oil is colorless to pale yellow and easily evaporates. The oils are complex mixtures comprised of many compounds. Each constituent contributes to the beneficial or adverse effects of these oils. Eugenol was identified as the major compound in the essential oil and accounted about 28%. Methyl chavicol is the second most common compound and accounted for 17% of the compound. Trepinol has been identified as the third main constituent in the oil comprising 15% of the compound. From the pharmacological point, it was found that the essential oil obtained from O. americanum showed anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and antioxidant activity.
